Tokyo, May 24, 2005 (JCN) - Olympus Medical Systems (TSE: 7733) will begin marketing the Ultrasonic Gastrovideoscope OLYMPUS GF TYPE UE260-AL5, an ultrasonic endoscope, on June 1. Using the company's proprietary compact ultrasonic transducer, the UE260-AL5 is the first equipment that has provided 360-degree cross-sectional ultrasound scans.
Also, equipped with a colored Doppler function, the UE260-AL5 can speed up identifying blood vessels, lymph nodes and internal organs.
The product sells for 9,975,000 yen ($93,000). Olympus Medical Systems plans to sell 20 units annually. The company expects that the new product will contribute to diagnosing pancreatic and biliary diseases as well as the infiltration of gastric and esophageal cancers.
The new product will be exhibited at the 69th Annual Meeting of the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society to be held in Tokyo from May 26 to 28.
