| Rohto Pharmaceutical and Nichi Nichi Pharmaceutical Confirm that Lactic Acid Bacteria Preparation LFK Helps Inhibit Skin Pigmentation and Whiten Skin |

Tokyo, June 9, 2005 (JCN) - On June 8, Rohto Pharmaceutical (TSE: 4527) announced the results of its latest research co-conducted with Nichi Nichi Pharmaceutical on lysed Enterococcus faecalis FK-23 (LFK), a kind of lactic acid bacteria preparation.
Their experiments on mice indicated that an oral intake of LFK can effectively inhibit skin pigmentation caused by ultraviolet exposure while providing whitening effectiveness.
The companies have started clinical trials on human subjects. Currently, the two companies have jointly applied patent for this finding.
