Tokyo, Feb 13, 2006 (JCN) - The National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) has developed a technique for manufacturing dendrimer, a kind of high-polymer material, in collaboration with Hakuto.
The new technique, which improves the chemical treatment process, can synthesize dendrimer in a shorter period of time and at a lower cost. Specifically, it helps reduce time required for synthesis to 1/10 the time it takes with the conventional method.
NICT licenses the relevant techniques to Hakuto. Accordingly, Hakuto plans to develop and introduce a new material to the market.
Dendrimer, which is currently used in organic electroluminescence displays, are expected to have a wider range of applications from genetic and bio reagents and molecular sensors to catalytic chemicals and dye-sensitised solar cells.
Details of this achievement will be presented at the nano tech 2006 International Nanotechnology Exhibition & Conference to be held at the Tokyo Big Sight from February 21.
