NTV, NTT DoCoMo Co-develop Mobile Phone System to Distribute and Store Video-embedded E-coupons and E-cards

Tokyo, Oct 4, 2006 (JCN) - Nippon Television Network (NTV) and NTT DoCoMo have jointly developed a system to distribute and store video-embedded e-coupons and e-cards to and in cellular phones capable of receiving one-seg terrestrial digital broadcasting.

The system uses the one-seg data broadcasting band to automatically store broadcasting program information in a one-seg capable handset regardless of whether or not it displays broadcast video. The scheme allows users to receive e-coupons and various information such as recipes embedded with a cooking scene and sports player cards with an embedded video message.

NTV and DoCoMo are considering distributing location-dependent coupons and coupons intended for users with target attributes.

Compatible with Torca, DoCoMo's service for allowing e-coupons and shop information to be stored in Osaifu Keitai e-money-capable handsets, the new system enables users to use e-coupons and e-cards simply by placing their handsets close to a Torca reader/writer.
