Tokyo, Dec 19, 2007 (Jiji Press) - Yanmar Energy System Co. said Wednesday it is set to launch full-fledged sales of its cogeneration system that generates electricity and heats water using biogas produced in waste processing at sewage plants and livestock facilities. Yanmar Energy System, a fully owned subsidiary of engine and agricultural machinery maker Yanmar Co., has been selling the system on a test basis since last year. In 2006, the firm supplied 25 units to livestock facilities and food plants. Biogas used as fuel in the system is mainly made up of methane produced in waste processing. Using one unit of the system can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 70 tons a year, according to Yanmar Energy System officials. The cogeneration system will likely be priced at 12 million yen. The company is aiming to sell 1,000 units in fiscal 2012.
