Tokyo, Jan 15, 2008 (Jiji Press) - Toyota Motor Corp. <7203>, a top maker of fuel-efficient gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles, will start selling a "plug-in" version by 2010, its president, Katsuaki Watanabe, said Sunday.
Toyota intends to deliver plug-in hybrids in significant number to various corporate users around the world, Watanabe said at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
A main market for the plug-in hybrids will be the United States, he said.
Plug-in hybrids are mounted with batteries that can be recharged by plugging the vehicles into wall power outlets.
Toyota, known for its blockbuster hybrid Prius, aims to raise its annual global hybrid vehicle sales to more than one million in the early 2010s.
