Japan Communications Aiming to Start Data Service in Summer
Tokyo, Mar 26, 2008 (Jiji Press) - Japan Communications Inc. <9424> said Wednesday that it has asked NTT DoCoMo Inc. <9437> to connect the mobile phone giant's third-generation service network with Japan Communications' infrastructure to help it launch data services.
Japan Communications is hoping to begin data communications services for corporate clients as early as in July-September as a mobile virtual network operator.
The firm will adopt fixed fees for the services, which will be offered through smart phones. It hopes to attract customers by setting its fees at levels lower than those of rivals.
NTT DoCoMo said the company cannot clearly say when the connection will start because it will take time to develop billing software.
U.S. entertainment giant Walt Disney Co. began mobile phone services in Japan on March 1 as an MVNO, leasing the network of Softbank Mobile Corp., a unit of Softbank Corp. <9984>.
