Tokyo, May 16, 2008 (Jiji Press) - Pioneer Corp. <6773> will open new outlets in North America to bolster sales of its key products such as plasma display television sets, President Tamihiko Sudo said.
The Japanese electronics maker will increase the number of directly run outlets in the region to a maximum of four by the end of this year from one at present, Sudo said in a recent interview.
The move comes as the company's Pioneer Store outlet, launched in summer 2006 at South Coast Plaza, an upscale shopping mall in the suburb of Los Angeles, performs well, he said.
Pioneer is now looking for candidate sites for new Pioneer Store outlets on the West Coast, Sudo said.
Launches of liquid crystal display TVs in Japan and the United States will take place next spring at the earliest, Sudo said.
The release in Asia may come earlier, he added.
Pioneer plans to release LCD TVs in Europe in August through a tie-up with Sharp Corp. <6753>, a major LCD TV producer.
