Tokyo, May 28, 2008 (Jiji Press) - Sony Corp. <6758> said Wednesday that on June 20 it will launch the first speaker system that uses a glass tube for the diaphragm.
The new speaker system, Sountina, produces sound from the glass tube that covers 360 degrees without the use of multiple speakers.
The 185-centimeter-tall speaker will be sold at a suggested retail price of 1,050,000 yen.
It gives a clear sound that can reach long distances, by featuring a hard and clear glass tube rather than the conventionally used paper and magnesium, Sony said.
The company hopes to sell the product to hotels and restaurants.
