Matsushita to Sell Home Fuel Cells via Gas Suppliers

Osaka, July 1, 2008 (Jiji Press) - Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. <6752> has agreed to sell home-use fuel cells via three major Japanese gas suppliers, informed sources said Tuesday.

Tokyo Gas Co. <9531>, Toho Gas Co. <9533> and Saibu Gas Co. <9536> will become sales agents for Matsushita's full cells, while providing the electronics maker with gas, a material for hydrogen used in the cells.

Matsushita plans to start mass-producing one-kilowatt cells early next year.

Matsushita developed a fuel cell that it claims has the world's top-class power generation efficiency. The company has been testing the cell for practical use.

Matsushita hopes to find other sales agents both in Japan and overseas.
