Shipments of Dragon Quest V Remake Top 1M in Japan
Tokyo, July 30, 2008 (Jiji Press) - Square Enix Co. <9684> said Wednesday it has shipped more than one million copies of its latest version of "Dragon Quest V" for Nintendo Co.'s <7974> Nintendo DS portable game machine in the two weeks since its launch in Japan on July 17.
Since its first release in 1992, Dragon Quest V has been remade twice. It proved its continuing strong popularity by reaching the one-million mark at a remarkably fast pace.
Dragon Quest, the mainstay role-playing game of Square Enix, has been a huge hit with global cumulative shipments of over 45 million copies.
Two of the other three titles of the series that have been released for the Nintendo DS also topped one million shipments in Japan.
The newest title, Dragon Quest IX, is expected to be released by the end of this year.
