Nippon Sheet Glass to Boost Windshield Output in Brazil

Nippon Sheet Glass to Boost Output
Tokyo, Aug 7, 2008 (Jiji Press) - Nippon Sheet Glass Co. <5202> said Thursday it will expand windshield output in Brazil by 50 pct in 2010 on the back of the rapid growth of the South American country's automobile industry.

The company will spend 43 million euros to build a new production line near Sao Paulo to boost annual output to at least three million units from the current two million.

The new line, which will be operated by Pilkington Automotive Ltd., a Nippon Glass Sheet group company, will start production in early 2010.

Nippon Sheet Glass expects annual vehicle production in Brazil to increase to 5.3 million units in 2015 from 2.97 million in 2007. The company plans to invest further in such emerging markets.
