Microsoft to Cut Xbox 360 Prices in Japan

Tokyo, Sept 1, 2008 (Jiji Press) - Microsoft Co. said Monday it will cut the retail prices of its Xbox 360 videogame console in Japan on Sept. 11 in an effort to compete better with rivals in the crucial year-end shopping season.

The Japanese unit of U.S. software giant Microsoft Corp. said the recommended retail price for the high-end Elite model equipped with a 120-gigabyte hard drive will be lowered to 39,800 yen from 47,800 yen.

The price of the entry-level Arcade without a hard drive will be cut to 19,800 yen from 27,800 yen.

A new standard model with a 60-gigabyte drive will sell for 29,800 yen, 5,000 yen lower than the current 20-gigabyte model.
