Sumitomo Corp, Chisso and Cambrios Technologies in TFT-LCD Materials Alliance
Tokyo, Jan 15, 2009 (JCN) - Sumitomo Corporation, Chisso Corporation and Sunnyvale-based Cambrios Technologies Corporation agreed the companies will jointly promote and commercialize "wet-coatable" transparent conductive ink as a replacement for ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) in the field of TFT-LCD.
The companies plan to create a product based on Cambrios proprietary ClearOhm coating material and technology which is optimized for the TFT-LCD production process, and hope to combine sales, marketing and technical service capability with product development programs.
Sumitomo invested in Cambrios through its US based subsidiary in March, 2007, and started the sales and marketing of Cambrios products for all markets except TFT-LCD. With the new TFT-LCD agreement, Sumitomo will further expand its sales and marketing activities into transparent conductive materials.
Cambrios will manufacture the TFT-LCD transparent conductive coating material as jointly developed with Chisso. Chisso will also develop related materials to be used with the Cambrios ClearOhm coating material, evaluate the ink, and offer technical support to the customers to become a 1st tier supplier of Cambrios products for TFT-LCD applications.
Sumitomo will be in charge of the marketing and the sales of the coating material as an agent of Chisso. In addition, to support Cambrios in its development programs, Sumitomo and Chisso jointly invested in the company in December 2008.
