NEC and TDC A/S partners to deploy the first Femtocell network in Denmark

Tokyo, Feb 6, 2009 - (JCN Newswire) - TDC Mobile A/S, Denmark's largest mobile operator, and NEC, one of the world's leading providers of Internet, broadband network and enterprise business solutions, announced today that they are working together for the potential roll-out of the NEC Femtocell solution in late 2009. The scope of engagement includes a friendly user trial involving several Femtocell Access Points deployed in consumer locations and connected to TDC's commercial core network system.

The Femtocell roll-out will offer TDC customers a small low-power plug-and-play consumer device (Femtocell Access Point) that will enable the provision of localised 3G coverage and dedicated capacity in their home while using their broadband connection as a backhaul.

NEC is among the first providers to offer a complete solution which includes the Femtocell access point for direct subscriber use, together with the Femtocell gateway and the Femtocell access point management and provisioning systems. NEC is a market leader in Femtocell technology, with commercial contracts in place and several live trials underway with operators around the world. NEC is committed to the future standardization of Femtocell technology in order to drive its mass-market adoption. NEC provides a range of standalone and integrated Femtocell Access Points as part of its offering to operators.

Flemming Hynkemejer, CTO of TDC Mobile A/S says, "We look forward to evaluating the results of the Femtocell trial. Femtocell technology promises to provide our customers with a number of advantages, primarily improved 3G coverage and capacity indoors. This will give them an even better experience and access to more services. This is TDC's first Femtocell trial in Denmark and we are excited to be leading the field."

Hynkemejer continues, "NEC has a great deal of experience in rolling out similar international Femtocell trials, making them the obvious partner for us."

Fredrik Tumeg?rd, CEO of NEC Scandinavia AB says, "We are very pleased that TDC has chosen us for its Femtocell trials. Femtocell is a very interesting area in which we see great potential for many operators, especially with regards to relieving the pressure on the 3G networks. It will facilitate the delivery of new services and features to customers, producing new revenue streams. Moreover, the technology is of great advantage to the end-user who will benefit from perfect reception for both voice calls and data traffic in their own homes. This technology is set to change the way we use our mobile handsets."

As a pioneer in the field, NEC undertook Femtocell related development from an early stage and is presently an active board member of the Femto Forum (www.femtoforum.org), an independent association established in July 2007. NEC views the engagement with TDC as recognition of the innovation and quality that are represented by NEC products and services.
