Tokyo, Apr 9, 2009 - (JCN Newswire) - Sharp Corporation will bring its LCD panel plant at the "Manufacturing Complex for the 21st Century" into operation in October 2009. The plant is currently under construction in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan.
Though the worldwide demand for LCD TVs has slowed temporarily due to the global economic recession, it is expected to further expand, notably in emerging economies such as China. While full-capacity operation is underway at Kameyama Plant No. 2, Sharp has decided to start operations this October at the new LCD panel plant in Sakai City, where the evaluation of technology for mass production has been completed, to meet this growing demand.
The Sakai LCD panel plant employs a number of innovative LCD technologies in conjunction with adopting the world's first 10th-generation glass substrates. Through cooperation with related companies set to locate on the same vast site, Sharp will establish the "Manufacturing Complex for the 21st Century" and implement a new type of vertical integration.
Sharp will work towards achieving further innovations in LCD panel performance and cost competitiveness at this state-of-the-art production facility.
