Tokyo, Apr 14, 2009 - (JCN Newswire) - Fujitsu Limited today announced across-the-line updates for its FMV-ESPRIMO desktop and FMV-LIFEBOOK laptop business PCs, comprising a total of seven series and 31 models(1). Sales of the new models begin in Japan today.
In addition to improvements to basic features, such as CPUs, the new models are highly energy-efficient and meet both current standards under the international ENERGY STAR program(2) and the program's new standards that go into effect July 1, 2009. The FMV-ESPRIMO line includes a new model with industry-leading energy efficiency of 24W. In addition, by using power-saving liquid-crystal displays (LCDs), power requirements were reduced by roughly 30%(3) compared to Fujitsu's previous models. With its diverse and environmentally friendly lineup, Fujitsu offers PC models to meet the varied needs of its enterprise customers.
The FMV-ESPRIMO line complies with the latest international ENERGY STAR program standards. The FMV-D5180 model achieves industry-leading energy efficiency of 24W, for a 50% reduction in power requirement(4) compared to the fiscal 2006 model. The use of power-saving liquid-crystal panels enables a 30% reduction in the power requirement for the VL-177SEL LCDs. Further power reduction is made possible by combining VL-177SEL with a switched convenience outlet(5).
The FMV-LIFEBOOK line also meets the latest ENERGY STAR standards. All models come standard with a battery utility function, which features a special 80% battery-charging mode that can extend battery life by 50%(6). The FMV-A8280 includes a widescreen 15.6" LCD panel and Intel Celeron dual-core processor to meet the needs of a broad spectrum of users. All models also come with Windows Vista Business with an optional downgrade service(7).
Glossary and Notes 1 Seven series and 31 models: The FMV-ESPRIMO line comprises two series with 17 models, and the FMV-LIFEBOOK line comprises five series with 14 models. A number of different CPU options are available on some models.
2 International ENERGY STAR program: An international energy-efficiency standard for office equipment used in seven countries and regions. A total of 11 models in the FMV-ESPRIMO line (FMV-D5180, one FMV-D5280 model, and one FMV-D5380 model), and eight models in the FMV-LIFEBOOK line (FMV-R8280 and models powered by the Core 2 Duo processor: FMV-E8280, FMV-A8280, FMV-S8380, FMV-A6280) comply with the standard. 3 Power requirements were reduced by roughly 30%: Comparison of typical power consumption of Fujitsu's new VL-177SEL display and the company's previous VL-176SE display.
4 50% reduction in power requirement: Comparison of the new FMV-D5180 (running AMD PowerNow! technology) to Fujitsu's previous FMV-D5120, with typical power consumption (not built-to-order; power consumption of computer alone when OS is running and hard drive is spun down; OS: Windows Vista).
5 Switched convenience outlet: A power outlet on the computer for transferring power to the display. When the computer is turned off power for the display is also cut off, eliminating the problem of unintentionally leaving the display on. 6 Extend battery life by 50%: Shown in actual measurements by Fujitsu. Results may vary depending on operating conditions and type of use.
7 Windows Vista Business with an optional downgrade service: Models running Windows Vista Business give customers the right to downgrade their operating system if they choose. Fujitsu carries out the downgrading on behalf of customers.
