Tokyo, May 6, 2009 - (JCN Newswire) - NEC Corporation today announced the delivery of a fully converged voice and data wireless LAN network for The Peninsula Shanghai, which provides world-class luxury facilities with a wide array of advanced communication capabilities.
The new solution is implemented by the IP Telephony server UNIVERGE SV8500, which is the system's first Asian deployment outside of Japan, and the UNIVERGE wireless LAN (WLAN) system. The solution provides the hotel and adjoining residential complex with innovative applications that are fully networked with each other and include comprehensive VoWLAN (Voice over WLAN) coverage throughout 99.9% of the facility, IP telephony and a complete interface between the property management systems and the hotel Electric Light Voltage (ELV) system. Moreover, the UNIVERGE SV8500's fully linked network between the hotel and adjoining apartment complex enables both hotel guests and permanent residents to enjoy the hotel's superior services.
Additionally, NEC's state-of-the-art VoWLAN handset, the UNIVERGE Terminal MH250, enables a broad range of staff to communicate seamlessly and flexibly, which supports the mobility of staff throughout The Peninsula Shanghai complex, and promotes responsiveness to customer and resident needs alike. Furthermore, NEC will also provide the IP compatible, fixed line, multifunction UNIVERGE IP Phone DT700 series for back office use by hotel employees.
The HongKong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited, the owner and operator of The Peninsula Hotels, operates luxurious hotels in key gateways of Asia and the USA. The Peninsula Shanghai is situated in the heart of the city's historic Bund district, and as the ninth property in The Peninsula Hotels' portfolio, complements the beauty of the surrounding designated UNESCO heritage site. When completed, The Peninsula Shanghai complex will include a 15-story hotel with 235 guest rooms and suites, a retail arcade and a 14-story residential building with 39 high-end apartments. The complex is scheduled to open in late 2009, in time for the Shanghai World Expo in 2010.
"The hospitality sector in China, especially in Shanghai, is highly competitive and differentiation relies heavily on building a solid reputation with hotel guests, whose comfort and enjoyment represent our top priority," said Mr. Shane Izaks, General Manager, Information Technology of The HongKong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited. "When we decided to build The Peninsula Shanghai complex in this historical district of the city, it was significant for us to identify a communications vendor that could not only provide state-of-the-art technology, but also had a proven track record with The Peninsula's hospitality," said Mr. Izaks.
