Tokyo, May 27, 2009 - (ACN Newswire) - Seiko Epson Corporation, Epson Imaging Device Corporation that promotes small to mid sized LCD display operations, Suzhou Epson Co., Ltd., a China based manufacturing partner of Epson Imaging, and NEC Corporation announced today that Epson has deployed a new technology information management system at Suzhou Epson with support from NEC. Epson Imaging and Suzhou Epson both began operating the new system in March this year.
The new system manages a variety of technology related documents, such as work sheets and order processing sheets, through well integrated and secure practices. There are approximately 200 engineers and designers currently using the system in both Japan and China. The system employed NEC's PLM solution "Obbligato II" as a platform, which took approximately two months to construct and now offers secure management of confidential information with an easy to use interface.
This is the first system to adopt NEC's original data removal control method without use of encryption within a secured environment.
The installation of this new system at Suzhou Epson is a part of Epson Imaging's manufacturing structure enhancement of its business in China.
The new system will secure the management of product and technology information and ensure the market integrity of companies by preventing information leakage. Additionally, by sharing and working on the same technological data, companies can quickly adapt to customer requirements and efficiently pass information through the manufacturing line.
New system features are as follows:
I. Maintain superior products and innovation by adopting trustworthy security measures
The new system's detailed access control and access log system provide higher security through preventing users from copying data to external devices, such as USB memory, creating e-mail attachments and taking screenshots. Furthermore, the system helps to maintain the product and technological integrity of companies by requiring user name and time registrations, which prevent the leakage of technological information.
II. Conveniently trace technological information through a single source
Previously all technological communications were managed by paper, e-mail and FAX. The new system, managed by Obbligato II, allows users to smoothly access and change product and technological information from any site, such as laboratories and manufacturing plants, without causing confusion between company divisions.
III. Quick installation enabled by development template
NEC has created various templates for data models serving PLM solutions and parameters through experience constructing systems for approximately 500 top Japanese companies. NEC has adapted this new system over the course of two months with support of partners in Japan and China.
Suzhou Epson is currently considering the adoption of NEC Software Kyushu, Ltd.'s FlowLites work flow system in order to maximize operational efficiency, in addition to the new system, which may also be used throughout a range of markets.
NEC has developed an enhanced anti-information leakage function for Obbligato II that will be primarily available in the Chinese market as Obbligato II R9.1 starting from January 2010.
Looking forward, NEC will continue to promote the secure management of technological information across the manufacturing field and to expand this solution to other languages in cooperation with local support.
