Mazda Publishes Sustainability Report 2009 and Annual Report 2009

Tokyo, Aug 31, 2009 - (JCN Newswire) - Mazda Motor Corporation today issued the Mazda Sustainability Report 2009 in Japanese. It outlines Mazda's corporate social responsibility (CSR) policies as well as achievements for fiscal year 2008 (April 2008 to March 2009). The English version of the Sustainability Report 2009 will be released at the end of September.

Also today, Mazda released its Annual Report 2009 in Japanese and English. It features management information and financial news for investors and shareholders.

The Mazda Sustainability Report 2009 covers Mazda's CSR activities that are aimed at contributing to the development of a sustainable society. To reflect this, the title of the report was changed from "Social and Environmental Report" to "Sustainability Report." This year's report touches on Mazda CSR activities which are focused mainly on the following three areas:

1) Environmental Conservation: Mazda's efforts as an automaker to protect the global environment
2) Social Contributions: activities in local communities
3) Respect for People: corporate activities to promote respect for others.

Mazda has published an environmental report since 2001. The title was updated to Social and Environmental Report in 2004 when societal information was also included. This year marks the ninth edition of the company report.

Highlights of the Sustainability Report 2009

- A new "Story" section now accompanies the existing "Data" section to provide a concise account of Mazda's CSR approach and initiatives under the headings of 1) Environmental Conservation, 2) Social Contributions, and 3) Respect for People.
- A summary of Mazda's plan to improve the average fuel economy of Mazda vehicles sold globally 30 percent by 2015 under the company's long-term vision for technology development, Sustainable Zoom-Zoom.
- Details of Mazda's unique engine start/stop system, i-stop, which was launched in the all-new Mazda3 (known in Japan as the Mazda Axela) in Europe and Japan.
- An introduction the Mazda Group's global social contributions.
- An explanation of the Mazda Way Seven Principles, a human resources concept established in fiscal year 2008.
- In addition to the printed booklet, the report is also available on Mazda's Web site. The Web site version contains more detailed information in each section.

Highlights of the Annual Report 2009

- Under the theme of "Challenge and Opportunity.(1)", this report highlights the results of various measures implemented during FY2008 and Mazda's strategy for continuing product-led growth in the future, in conversations with management, including the new president, Takashi Yamanouchi.
- Details of Mazda's plans and progress toward developing environmental and safety technologies for the future.
