Toyota to Participate in 16th World Congress on ITS

Tokyo, Sept 10, 2009 - (JCN Newswire) - TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announces it will host a corporate display booth at the 16th World Congress on ITS1 in Stockholm, Sweden from September 21 to 25, 2009.

The World Congress on ITS is the world's largest and most influential ITS-related international conference. Held annually in Europe, the Asia-Pacific and the Americas on a rotating basis, the congress invites ITS-related groups (government, research bodies and commercial enterprises) from a wide range of countries and regions to use sessions, exhibitions and technical tours to present their latest ITS research findings and products.

Under this year's conference theme, "ITS in Daily Life", TMC will introduce - with a special focus on safety, the environment and comfort - its proposals for future sustainable mobility, its initiatives for achieving these proposals, and the specific contributions that ITS technologies and such services are making to society and daily life.

Regarding safety, TMC will display a vehicle based on the Lexus "LS" and show video footage of verification tests of ITS vehicle-infrastructure cooperative systems2, which, in Japan, are fast approaching practical-use level, thanks to cooperative initiatives between the public and private sectors. TMC will also use a driving simulator to allow participants to experience the advanced applications TMC hopes to develop in the future for these systems.

Regarding the environment, in addition to displaying information regarding its ITS vehicle technologies, TMC will outline the comprehensive efforts it is making to improve the environment through supporting environmentally considerate driving practices. Such practices include striking a balance between driving that is oriented toward fuel efficiency and that is geared toward improving traffic flow in line with overall traffic conditions.

Regarding comfort, along with information on its advanced driver-support functions, TMC will use videos and panels to display its information-provision technologies, including the G-BOOK mX service in Japan and the telematics services being rolled out in the United States and China.

TMC has long and actively promoted ITS and has participated in and displayed its latest ITS technology at the World Congress on ITS every year since the first congress in Paris in 1994.
