Toyota Publishes 'Sustainability Report 2009' - JCN Newswire
Toyota Publishes 'Sustainability Report 2009'

Tokyo, Sept 30, 2009 - (JCN Newswire) - TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announces the publication today of its 'Sustainability Report 2009'(1), which outlines TMC's environmental and social activities conducted primarily during 2008(2) and the concepts and policies that serve as their foundation.

TMC issues an annual report regarding its environmental activities - this issue being the 12th - as a means of disclosing information to the public, sharing information with consolidated companies and business partners, and promoting environmental and social management. TMC's overseas subsidiaries and related companies are also issuing individual reports this year in a total of 14 countries and regions.

TMC's fundamental philosophy of contributing to society through the manufacture of automobiles is featured prominently in this year's report, with ideas on how to achieve that goal presented in the opening message from TMC President Akio Toyoda and in the report's three special features: "Return to the Starting Point", "Third-generation Prius" and "Initiatives Aimed at Conveying the Appeal of Vehicles".

The main body of the report has three sections. The first, regarding the environment, presents information on the interim review of the Fourth Toyota Environmental Action Plan (adopted in May 2005) and overviews progress made during 2008 on implementing the plan.

The second section, which concerns social contribution activities, discusses the drafting and development of the Toyota Supplier CSR Guidelines that outline TMC's approach to safety technology and vehicle development. It also gives information on TMC's efforts to commercialize its people-assisting robots.

The final section contains basic financial data and sales information from TMC's 'Annual Report 2009'(3) for investors, which was released on September 7, 2009.

TMC plans to continue to expand and improve its global disclosure of information.
