Japan's Largest Optic Network Adopts Hitachi's GS4000 IPv6 Gigabit Switch Series

Tokyo, May 10, 2004 (JCN) - Hitachi Information & Telecommunication Systems Division announced May 7 that its GS4000 Series of IPv6 gigabit switches has been adopted into Japan Gigabit Network II (JGNII), Japan's largest optical-fiber telecommunications network for universities and research institutions.

Used as the core switching device for JGNII, the GS4000 is equipped with a number of 10Gbps Ethernet ports, and delivers a maximum switching capacity of 640Gbps.

The optical-fiber network is managed and operated by the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT). JGNII went into operation in April.
