| National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) Develops Therapeutic Robot Seal |

Tokyo, Sept 22, 2004 (JCN) - The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) announced September 17 that it has developed the latest version of a therapeutic robot seal in collaboration with Microjenics.
AIST has licensed all intellectual property rights to the robot, called PARO, to its affiliated venture company Intelligent System (ISC).
On September 20, ISC began accepting lease orders for PARO with the aim of introducing the robot to nursing homes for the elderly.
The results of clinical trials with the robot in both Japan and foreign countries indicate that PARO can positively affect patients psychologically, physiologically, and socially.
In February 2002, the Guinness Book of Records acknowledged the PARO robot as the most therapeutic robot in the world.
