Tokyo, Nov 5, 2004 (JCN) - Olympus (TSE: 7733) has announced that it will launch the development of an advanced technology to diagnose cancer at a very early stage.
Specifically, the company aims to devise a micromini spectroscopic imaging device and a spectroscopic videoscope system. To be developed based on the company's nanotechnology and fluorescence technique, the new devices will be able to detect a minute region of cancer, as small as less than 2 mm in diameter.
The development project is a New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) funded project. Olympus plans to develop relevant technologies by March 2007 and to file an application for a new drug by the end of 2008.
