| Matsushita, Seiko Instruments Develop High-speed, High-precision Hazardous Substance Measurement System for Use at Production Facilities |

Tokyo, Nov 9, 2004 (JCN) - Seiko Instruments (SII) announced that its subsidiary SII Nanotechnology and Panasonic AVC Networks, a Matsushita Electric (TSE: 6752) affiliate, have jointly developed an advanced system, especially designed for use at production facilities, to automatically measure hazardous substances.
The system uses a fluorescent X-ray method to measure substances at high speeds and at high precision. Complying with several regulations on toxic substances including RoHS (Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electric equipment), WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electric Equipment), and ELV (End-of-Life Vehicle), the system ensures safer and more effective operations on production sites.
In December, Panasonic AVC will begin to deploy it in its plants. Meanwhile, SII Networks will incorporate it into its X-ray fluorescence analyzers Hazardous Substance Monitor SEA1000A and 2200 series and begin shipping them in December.
