| Lipitor, Atorvastatin Calcium Hydrate Greatly Inhibits Coronary Artery Plaque Progression: Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical, Pfizer Japan |

Tokyo, Jan 31, 2005 (JCN) - Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical (TSE: 4503) and Pfizer Japan jointly announced that the positive results of REVERSAL (Reversal of Atherosclerosis with Aggressive Lipid Lowering) trials on Lipitor, an atorvastatin calcium hydrate, were published in the January 6 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM).
According to the NEJM article, a daily intake of Lipitor (80mg) effectively reduces the levels of LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol and CRP (C-reactive protein). Further, it can inhibit the progression of coronary artery plaque.
Lipitor, Yamanouchi's proprietary lipid-lowering agent, was launched in May 2000. Currently, the two companies Yamanouchi and Pfizer Japan are collaborating in sales.
