National Agriculture and Bio-oriented Research Organization, Igaden Develop On-Chip Microcosm for Nematode Observation

Tokyo, Feb 22, 2005 (JCN) - The National Agriculture and Bio-oriented Research Organization announced on February 18 that it has developed an on-chip microcosm for observing nematodes in collaboration with Igaden.

The microcosm chip creates on it a microscopic environment resembling the inside of soil, enabling the behaviors of nematodes to be measured and controlled in detail. The device will be exhibited at nano tech 2005 to be held at the Tokyo Big Sight from February 23 to 25.

In addition, Igaden plans to market the microcosm under the trade name Nematodes Checker NemaCosm from April 1. The price will be set at 400,000 yen ($3,900). The company expects the product to be used for research on soil ecosystems by laboratories and schools.
