Tokyo, Apr 25, 2005 (JCN) - Zoegene and Fujitsu (TSE: 6702) announced on April 21 that they have launched a joint project for developing innovative agents.
Under this partnership, the two companies will strive to discover hit compounds by leveraging their unique strengths: ZOEGENE's expertise in protein expression, crystal analysis and compound synthesis, and Fujitsu's proprietary drug discovery technology de novo SBDD.
Specifically, they aim to identify a compound that inhibits BACE-1, a beta-secretase enzyme that are considered to be a causing factor of Alzheimer's disease.
The two companies expect that this project will contribute to the development of innovative drugs for intractable diseases.
