Osaka, Apr 14, 2004 - (JCN Newswire) - Kobayashi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce the launch of a surgical device series for "Portless Endoscopic Surgery : PLES." The new devices are the first product line to have been developed by the Medical Device R&D Center of the Kobayashi Medical Company, a member of the group's Medical Device Operation Division.
"Portless Endoscopic Surgery" (PLES) is primarily characterized by surgical procedures that can be performed through one incision just large enough to access the target. PLES offers the advantages of both conventional abdominal surgery and laparoscopic surgery especially in urology field, enabling the safer procedures.
The concept of "Endoscopic Minilaparotomy" was introduced at a Kobe conference held by the Japanese Urological Association in the Spring of 2001, and was heralded as a breakthrough by urologists, many of whom were in the movement from abdominal surgery towards laparoscopic surgery. Most significantly, PLES contributes to an improved patient QOL (quality of life), since patient stress can be greatly reduced due to the smaller incision, shortened hospital stay, fewer post-operative infections, fewer complications, and better long-term results.
Kobayashi Medical Company is committed to the creation of a healthy and comfortable life with a mission to "contribute to patient's QOL and medical care by delivering state-of-art medical technology and information to the medical marketplace". The launch of this series of PLES surgical devices, the first major new product from the Kobayashi Medical Company, and the many new medical devices the division will introduce in the future follow Kobayashi's dedicated mission.
