Takara Bio Licenses FLT3 Gene Mutation Detection Method to InVivoScribe Technologies

Tokyo, July 12, 2006 (JCN) - Takara Bio has entered into a licensing agreement with US company InVivoScribe Technologies for a patent on detecting the mutations of FMS-like tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3) genes developed by Takara Bio.

Under the agreement, InVivoScribe Technologies will receive an exclusive license to use the patent worldwide, except in Japan, including the development, manufacture and sales of a reagent for detecting FLT3 gene mutations. Further, the US company can sublicense the patent to other gene test makers and medical laboratories.

InVivoScribe Technologies will make an upfront payment and royalties on sales and sublicenses to Takara Bio.

FLT3 is an acceptor protein that plays a crucial role in early hematopoietic regulation. FLT3 is considered to be one of the major causes of acute myeloid leukemia. Currently, Takara Bio is obtaining a patent on the detection method of FLT3 gene mutations in Japan and the US and has filed a patent application in Europe.
