Matsushita, Toshiba, Sharp JV Starts Recycling Biz in U.S.
Tokyo, Jan 7, 2008 (Jiji Press) - Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. <6752>, Toshiba Corp. <6502> and Sharp Corp. <6753> said Sunday that their joint venture has started recycling operations for used electronic products in Minnesota, the United States.
The joint company, Electronic Manufacturers Recycling Management Company, was established last September, with investment of 305,000 dollars, reflecting new recycling regulations in Minnesota that require manufacturers to collect and recycle their used electronic products such as TV sets and personal computers.
The new company collects and recycles products for the three Japanese manufacturers. The parent firms will bear the recycling costs.
The joint company is expected to expand its business to other states, including Connecticut and Oregon, where such laws are scheduled to come into effect.
