Orix Auto to Offer Nissan GT-R Sports Car for Hire
Tokyo, June 24, 2008 (Jiji Press) - Orix Auto Corp. said Tuesday that it will offer Nissan Motor Co.'s <7201> GT-R sports car for hire during the summer holiday season.
Orix Auto, a fully owned unit of top Japanese leasing company Orix Corp. <8591>, will be the first among major car rental firms to offer the model for hire.
The car will be rented out only to drivers who meet strict criteria, such as living in the Tokyo metropolitan area, and having more than 20 years of driving experience and no record of accidents or offences in the past five years.
The GT-R rental service is expected to draw robust demand. The car, priced at more than 8 million yen, is so popular that it usually takes three months from purchase to delivery.
The rental service will be offered between July 20 and Aug. 31 and available only at Orix Auto's outlet at the Roppongi Hills commercial-business complex in Tokyo's Minato Ward.
Fees are 35,000 yen for 10-hour rentals between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. and 70,000 yen for 34-hour rentals from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. the following day.
Reservations will be accepted from June 27 by mail. Application forms can be downloaded from Orix Auto's Web site.
