Kuraray to Commercialize Concentrating Lens for Solar Power Generation
Tokyo, Apr 11, 2011 (JCN) - Kuraray will commercialize a concentrating lens, and supply the product to Amonix Inc, the leading designer and manufacturer of concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) solar power systems with a market share of over 70%.
In March, Amonix expanded manufacturing capacity with a newly constructed CPV system production plant in Las Vegas, Nevada, with an annual production capacity of 150MW.
Kuraray presently produces methacrylic resin, which is a raw material for concentrating lenses. With an improved methacrylic resin and precision molding technology in the laser disk and opto-screen businesses, Kuraray will produce lenses realizing a high degree of precision and light-concentrating efficiency, and has achieved 31% of the most efficient photovoltaic modules, even with conventional solar power generation technology.
Kuraray has engaged in the GS-Twins three-year medium-term action plan since fiscal 2009 and positioned "environment," "energy" and "optical and electronic business" as its core areas. Aiming to achieve 1 trillion yen net sales by 2018, Kuraray is working to create and expand new businesses.
