Tokyo, Nov 8, 2011 (JCN) - Mitsui and Co. Ltd has reported total revenues of 2.629 trillion yen for the six-month period ended September 30, 2011, up from 2.2 trillion yen from the same period last year. Revenues from sales of products were 2.38 trillion yen, up from about 1.95 trillion yen last year.
Among the growth drivers include the Energy Segment, which grew by 126 billion yen, mainly due to significant increase in the petroleum trading business, in particular higher sales volume and petroleum prices. The company's Minerals & Metal Resources Segment, meanwhile, reported an increase of 76 billion yen.
Mitsui's Americas Segment posted an increase of 75.5 billion yen. Its Chemical Segment, for its part, achieved a 75.1 billion yen increase in business due to higher prices of raw materials for polyester, as well as sulphur and ammonia.
The Foods & Retail Segment, on the other hand, reported an increase of 64.2 billion yen, driven by increased sales volume of import business and offshore business for Asian countries, in addition to higher prices of grains and palm oil.
