Tokyo, Mar 6, 2012 (JCN) - Asahi Kasei Chemicals will be building a new acetonitrile plant that will have a production capacity of 11,000 tons per year in South Korea. The plant, scheduled to commence operations on January 2014, is expected to significantly boost Asahi Kasei's supply of acetonitrile as demand continues to grow rapidly worldwide. The new plant will be constructed at Tong Suh Petrochemical Corp. Ltd, an Asahi Kasei Group company in South Korea, which is currently constructing a new acrylonitrile (AN) plant in Ulsan with startup scheduled for January 2013. The acetonitrile plant will utilize crude acetonitrile byproduct from the AN plants in the country.
Asahi Kasei's new plant, in addition to its acetonitrile plant in Kawasaki, Kanagawa, Japan, which has a production capacity of 14,000 tons per year, will will enable the company to provide reliable supply to meet growing demand in the pharmaceutical industry, especially in India and China.
