Aisin Seiki to Exhibit its Latest Innovative Intelligent Transport System (ITS) at NAIAS 2013

Fortune Global 500 ranked Aisin Seiki Co., Ltd will exhibit its latest innovative intelligent transport system (ITS) technology at the North American International Auto Show, Detroit, 14-27 January 2013

The ITS Demo Car made a smash
Aichi, Japan, Jan 8, 2013 - (JCN Newswire) - Aisin Seiki Co., Ltd welcomes visitors to experience its latest innovative ITS technology on exhibition at North American International Auto Show, Detroit, 14-27 January 2013.

One of the highlights of the press preview is the AISIN unique demonstration car incorporating the technology to protect the driver for safe driving. The demonstration car offers visitors a first-hand opportunity to experience Aisin's futuristic Intelligent Transport System technology.

Innovative features of the Aisin Human Error Monitoring System

1. Sensors buried inside the seat monitor the driver's heart rate, breathing rhythm, and general body movements for signs of irregular behaviour.

2. An infra-red camera positioned on the steering column cover monitors changes in the driver's facial expressions for attentiveness (face and eye gazing direction) and drowsiness (eye-opening measurements).

In addition to these features of the demonstration car, Aisin Seiki is also developing novel technology for monitoring the driver's state of mind by measuring brain waves.

If the system detects signs of irregular driving then the driver is given an audio warning accompanied by seat vibration. Then if the driver ignores these warnings then the Human Error Monitoring System automatically applies the brakes and guides the car to a stop on the hard shoulder or road side. Finally, the System transmits an SOS via the smart phone of the driver.

The Aisin Human Error Monitoring System will in the future be integrated and synchronised with life and health care products produced by Aisin group companies to monitor the driver's health - such as the quality of sleep and symptoms of flu - round the clock.

Details

The Aisin Group booth will exhibit a danger-warning and response system that monitors and evaluates a driver's heart rate, breathing, and eyelid and face movement. If the system detects any irregular behaviour then the system automatically takes control of the vehicle, reduces its speed and brings it safely to a halt on the shoulder of the road. This system exemplifies the 'total comprehensive power' - sensors, brake control, system integration - offered by the Aisin Group.
