Tokyo, Nov 15, 2002 (JCN) - CYBIRD Co., Ltd., a major mobile internet solutions provider, announced today that its mobile internet service Cool Screen has been accepted as an official i-mode site by Bouygues Telecom. The site will launch on November 15, 2002. Cool Screen will be listed in the official i-mode portal and will thereby be easily accessible for the end users.
CYBIRD produces and manages popular contents for NTT DoCoMo on the Japanese market and also for i-mode in the European market. In Europe CYBIRD has launched Cool Screen, which puts together popular images for use as screen savers. In order to minimize the risk of doing business development in a foreign country, CYBIRD offers services similar to those that were popular in the initial stages of Mobile Internet in Japan, contents for customizing handsets.
These contents are focused around Picture and Ringtone downloads. Cool Screen was chosen due to its already existing popularity in Japan and other European countries, and as such does not involve any major investments while making it possible to start the service speedily.
With the launch of Cool Screen in France, CYBIRD is now operating six contents in four countries (France, Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium). In August 2002 CYBIRD established its Branch Office in The Hague, The Netherlands, which focuses on providing mobile Internet services in Europe as well as undertaking marketing activities.
When i-mode launched in Japan in February 1999 CYBIRD was one of the companies providing its services, ahead of many other companies. CYBIRD expects i-mode will become a success in Europe and aims to acquire the same dominant position in Europe as it enjoys in Japan.
