Fujitsu to Participate in the "RIO+20" United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development

Tokyo, June 8, 2012 - (JCN Newswire) - Fujitsu today announced that it will participate in the "RIO+20" United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from June 20 - 22. Fujitsu will be participating in the Japan Pavilion and a Corporate Sustainability Forum, which will take place in tandem with the conference.

In introducing its theme pertaining to the role of ICT in a sustainable society, Fujitsu will highlight ICT's major contributions - beginning with "K computer"(1), the world's fastest supercomputer - to addressing a wide variety of complex challenges.

About Rio+20

"RIO+20" is the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in June 2012. The United Nations is hosting the conference with the aim of providing a forum for leaders to discuss the future direction of sustainable development, as well as to secure renewed political commitments for sustainability. This year's themes are the "Green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication," and "The Institutional framework for sustainable development."

1. Japan Pavilion (Sponsored by Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs)-

Through a series of exhibits and lectures, Fujitsu will highlight ICT's major contributions, beginning with "K computer," the world's fastest supercomputer, to address the shared and difficult challenges facing humankind.

2. Corporate Sustainability Forum (Sponsored by the United Nations Global Compact(2))

Fujitsu will conduct presentations in two sessions.

June 16: "Initiatives on Biodiversity Conservation by Fujitsu" (Presented by Atsuhisa Takahashi, Fujitsu Corporate Executive Advisor (Environmental Strategy))
