'Etios' and 'Corolla' Engine Production to Further Localize Operations

Toyota City, Japan, Aug 9, 2012 - (JCN Newswire) - Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) plans to construct an engine plant in Porto Feliz, Sao Paulo in the Federative Republic of Brazil that is to produce engines for the "Etios" and "Corolla" compact sedans. The move is aimed at furthering local production in an automobile market expected to undergo consistent growth.

The new engine plant is planned to produce 1.3-liter and 1.5-liter engines for the Etios and 1.8-liter and 2.0-liter engines for the Corolla. Production is scheduled to start in the second half of 2015 with a planned annual capacity of approximately 200,000 units.

Toyota production in Brazil dates back to 1958 with the establishment of Toyota do Brasil Ltda. (TDB), which is Toyota's forefront manufacturing affiliate outside of Japan. Since then, Toyota has aimed to manufacture vehicles valued by Brazilian consumers, symbolized by the more than 100,000 "Bandeirante"* SUVs produced and sold between 1958 and 2001. In 1998, TDB began production of the Corolla, continuing its growth in step with the Brazilian market.

TDB will hold a ceremony on August 9 to mark the completion of its Sorocaba Plant, which will produce the Etios that is scheduled to be launched in Brazil later this year.

TMC, based on its principle of contributing to local society through the manufacture of automobiles, aims to continue contributing to Brazil's automotive industry and to offer Brazilian consumers attractive products that meet their needs.
