Tokyo, Dec 14, 2012 (JCN) - Dai Nippon Printing has established a new hologram production plant in the Kansai area, and is set to begin operations on December 13, 2012. Operation of the new plant will strengthen DNP's hologram supply system. Using an integrated production system, the new plant manufactures embossed holograms which offer both excellent design characteristics and high security against forgery, and Lippmann holograms, which can only be fabricated by a few companies worldwide and are extremely difficult to counterfeit.
The new hologram plant features a building with advanced earthquake-resistance consisting of laminated rubber, viscous dampers, sliding bearings, oil dampers and other devices, as well as a clean room with a high dust-proofing performance (Class-100), which is used for the production of high-quality holograms utilizing micro process engineering technology.
The operation of the new plant augments the cutting-edge control system required for the manufacture of future-minded security products, and at the same time allows for scalability in response to the globally expanding use of holograms on social infrastructure-related products such as bank notes, passports, driving licenses, and social security cards.
Holograms are widely used for security against forgery on various tradable certificates such as merchandise coupons and gift tickets, identification documents such as passports and employee ID cards, and credit cards, and also for protection of brand names of expensive consumer goods.
However, there has been no substantial abatement in the number of forged brand-name products in Japan or abroad, and the financial damage wreaked by counterfeit tradable certificates and IDs continues to rise worldwide. Against such backdrop there is an increasing demand for high-security holograms offering excellent visibility. DNP supplies embossed holograms and Lippmann holograms, and its hologram manufacturing technology is highly acclaimed internationally. To respond to the continuously expanding needs of customers, DNP has established a dedicated hologram manufacturing plant to strengthen its hologram production system.
DNP continues to provide holograms for the protection of product brand names and for the prevention of forgery of items requiring high levels of security, such as IDs and passports, and aims to achieve sales of 20 billion yen in the next five years through 2017.
