GS Yuasa to Install Mega Solar System 1 MW-output System at Gunma Plant

Tokyo, June 27, 2014 (JCN) - GS Yuasa Corporation will install what is going to be its second mega solar system, after the Iwaki Yuasa Photovoltaic Power Plant in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture, which started operations in June 2013.

It plans to install a 1 MW-output mega solar system in idle land within the premises of the Gunma Plant, which is one of GS Yuasa's production bases. The construction work will start in July this year, with the aim of starting operations in January 2015.

The Gunma mega solar system will not only sell the electricity it generates to the Tokyo Electric Power Company, incorporated utilizing the Feed-in Tariff System for Renewable Energy but also act as an emergency power source supplying electricity to the plant during power outage.

It can also supply electricity during the night or in rainy weather as it has lithium-ion batteries installed alongside. The plant will also have a quick charger for electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Total annual output of Iwaki Yuasa Photovoltaic Power Plant, which started operations in June 2013, exceeded the initial estimate of 1,100 MWh, and the plant is operating smoothly.

GS Yuasa will improve the technological capability and implement new product development in the renewable energy related business such as power conditioners and high capacity lithium-ion batteries.

The GS Yuasa Group has been a pioneer in the development of power conditioners which change direct current power from photovoltaic panels into alternating current which can be connected and supplied to commercial power grids.

The Group also has nearly 20 years' experience as a system integrator, providing system design and installation as well as after-sales service. Additionally, the Group offers various systems to effectively use renewable energy, including a system combining photovoltaic power generation with storage batteries to supply electricity during disasters and power blackouts.
