TOKYO, Oct 11, 2016 - (ACN Newswire) - The Society of Japanese Aerospace Companies (Chairman: Yasuyuki Yoshinaga, President & CEO of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd.) and Tokyo Big Sight Inc. (President & CEO: Yutaka Takehana) are proud to announce that the public event program has been finalized for the Japan International Aerospace Exhibition 2016 (JA2016), to be held over four days from Wednesday 12th to Saturday 15th October, 2016, at Tokyo Big Sight (3-11-1 Ariake, Koto-ku, Tokyo). What is the JA2016 public event? The final day of JA2016, Saturday October 15, will be a Trade & Public Day on which a diverse program of public events will be held. Intended to promote the aerospace industry and deepen public understanding of the industry, as well as stimulate interest among young people, particularly women and students, this program will include a variety of events to enjoy with family and friends.
Trade & Public Day Overview (*a selection) - Date: Saturday October 15, 2016 (9:30 am to 5:30 pm) - Venue: Tokyo Big Sight, West Exhibition Hall Atrium and Outdoor Exhibition Area - Admission fee (includes tax): Advance purchase 1,000 yen, purchase at the door 1,200 yen *Admission to the Trade & Public Day is free at the presentation of a valid student ID card (elementary school students or younger do not need to present ID) - Participation fee for each event: Free

Saturday October 15 Public Event Program
- Lecture by astronaut Naoko Yamazaki Time: 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm Venue: International Conference Room Capacity: 1,000 (on a first-come, first-served basis) How to participate: Register at the venue on the day (Numbered tickets distributed from 1:30 pm at the venue) Naoko Yamazaki, who flew into space aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery in April 2010 to serve on the International Space Station, will talk about the fascinating aspects of space. Naoko Yamazaki fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming an astronaut, and listening to her stories gives us the opportunity to learn more about space and enjoy dreams of the future of space exploration. In addition, this lecture will feature a video message for visitors from astronaut Takuya Onishi, who left Earth on July 7, 2016, and is currently serving aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
- Japan Air Self-Defense Force "CENTRAL BAND" Concert Time: 1 pm to 2 pm Venue: International Conference Center Capacity: 1,000 (on a first-come, first-served basis) How to participate: Register at the venue on the day (Numbered tickets distributed from 10:00 am at the venue) This concert will be given by the popular Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) Central Band, which is broadly active across Japan, including giving scheduled concerts and family-oriented concerts. Since its founding in 1961, the JASDF Central Band has played at a number of national events including the Tokyo Olympics, the Sapporo Winter Olympics, and the Crown Prince's wedding parade, as well as participating in many international events. In 1992, the JASDF Central Band was honored as the first band in Asia to receive the Colonel George S. Howard Citation of Musical Excellence for Military Concert Bands.
- Japan Air Self-Defense Force "Blue Impulse Junior" Time: First session: 10 am to 10:30 am, second session 2:15 pm to 2:45 pm Venue: Rooftop Exhibition Area A mini-bike version of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's Blue Impulse aerobatic flight show, Blue Impulse Jr will be presented on the Rooftop Exhibition Area. A team of volunteer members of the Blue Impulse squad affiliated with Matsushima Airbase will showcase their traveling exhibition of mini-bikes decorated in blue and white, modeled after the Blue Impulse aerobatic flight show.
- Japan Air Self-Defense Force "Marching Drill" by Aviation Cadet Time: 11:30 am to 12 noon Venue: Rooftop Exhibition Area Aviation students - Japan's future pilots - will shoulder their rifles and march to military music in a fancy drill showing off various orchestrated maneuvers. Handling their rifles with precision and discipline, they give a wonderful performance.
- ANA Airline Class - Maintenance - Time: 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm Venue: Reception Hall B Capacity: 300 (on a first-come, first-served basis) Participation method: Register at the venue on the day An aviation class will be held at the venue in order to stimulate interest and deepen understanding of the aviation industry, presented by instructors who are active duty aviation mechanics.
- JAL Aviation Class by female pilot and maintenance engineer Time: 1:30 pm to 2:15 pm Venue: Atrium Capacity: 200 (on a first-come, first-served basis) How to participate: Register at the venue on the day To help familiarize all women with the world of aviation and aviation-based careers, female pilots and female mechanics currently active in the field will serve as instructors for this aviation class held at the venue.
- A JAL Paper Plane class Time: 2:15 pm to 3 pm Venue: Atrium Capacity: About 20 (on a first-come, first-served basis) How to participate: Register at the venue on the day (Numbered tickets distributed from 1:20 pm at the venue) To help everyone gain familiarity with JAL airplanes, JAL employees who are certified instructors of Japan's Origami Airplane Association* will hold a JAL Origami Airplane Class. Anyone can experience the joy and depth of origami airplanes! (Sign up for the class at the venue.) *These classes are held as part of JAL's social contribution activities. - "Future Airline & Future Airport" Lecturer: Prof. Hajime Tozaki, Otsuma Women's University Time: 12:20 pm to 1 pm Venue: Atrium Capacity: 200 (on a first-come, first-served basis) How to participate: Register at the venue on the day A lecture by Professor Hajime Tozaki of Otsuma Women's University, a well-known specialist in transport policy. Speaking on the theme "Future Airlines, Future Airports," Professor Tozaki will consider the future of the aviation industry.
Profile of Professor Tozaki Born in Osaka. After graduating from the Faculty of Economics at Kyoto University, he joined Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. He held positions at Teikyo University Faculty of Economics, Meiji University School of Commerce, and the Waseda University Organization for Asian Studies before his current position. His specialist areas are transport policy and public economics.
- "Sorajo" Event - First Anniversary Celebration - The Sorajo committee established by the Japanese Rocket Society in order to promote gender equality in the aerospace industry will present the Space Business talk show and Sorajo (Women in the Sky) 1st anniversary event to commemorate the first anniversary of the founding of Sorajo at the International Aerospace Exhibition (JA2016) venue. These events are aimed at women currently engaged in research and development and practical work in the aerospace field, and women who wish to be, as well as anyone interested in gender equality in the aerospace industry. Participation with children welcome.

An exciting whirlwind of space innovation: the Space Business talk show Time: 10:30 am to 12 noon Venue: Atrium Capacity: 200 How to participate: Pre-registration required (see http://www.jrocket.org/dl/160926.pdf) The Space Business talk show will introduce space projects promoted by space ventures and non-space companies and will discuss the development and utilization of space, the expansion and future of the space business, and the outlook for the next generation.
2. Sorajo 1st anniversary celebration Time: 1 pm to 2:45 pm Venue: Reception Hall A Capacity: 300 How to participate: Pre-registration required (see http://www.jrocket.org/dl/160926.pdf) This celebratory meeting of the 1st anniversary of Sorajo will introduce reviews and future planning of Sorajo activities, as well as a Sorajo logo selection session and a brainstorming session for the Sorajo vision.
- SPACE Development Forum in JA2016 - The Future of Space Development from students' point of view - Time: 10 am to 2:45 pm Venue: Conference Rooms 605, 606, 607, 608 Capacity: 500 (currently scheduled, on a first-come-first-served basis) How to participate: Register at the venue on the day As a "fusion of the arts and the sciences," the Space Development Forum (SDF) will held at the JA2016 venue as a participatory symposium enabling working people and students of different majors and different years to discuss and exchange views on the subject of space development. Through group work about the challenges facing space development, this free discussion will enable participants to hear and explore previously unknown perspectives on the topic.
Outdoor Exhibition Area
- Display of F-35 mock-up, Rescue helicopter and Rescue fire engine Time: 9:30 am to 5:30 pm Venue: Outdoor Exhibition Area Aside from the scheduled cockpit mock-up boarding experience of Lockheed Martin's latest F-35 stealth fighter, there will also be a flying demonstration by a Japan Air Self-Defense Force UH-60J rescue helicopter. An exhibition of a rescue fire truck - a chemical fire engine designed for airport use - is also planned.

Guidelines for media interviews
Request for visits during Invitational Preview Hour At JA2016, an Invitational Preview Hour will be held for special invitees on the first day (Wednesday, October 12) from 10 am until 12 pm. This will permit viewing of the venue and exhibits prior to the entry of general public, and the organizers strongly encourage media personnel to attend this program and proactively carry out media interviews.
Some points to keep in mind about media interviews - Before conducting interviews, please obtain a press pass at the Press Center. Please refer to the map below to confirm its location. - Please note that there is no press reception area aside from the general reception area. - If conducting interviews over multiple days, we ask that you please obtain a press pass each day. - When conducting interviews with general public and exhibitors, please ensure you have undertaken negotiations and gained approval of each interviewee. - When interviewing, please be aware of visitors and take care. - The Press Center will provide an Internet environment for your use. - If you have any requests, please contact the PR office staff.
